Ottawa team finalists in Bracebridge tournament
from Derek Martin
This past weekend (June 13-15) a group of players from the Blackburn Men's Fastball League hit the road for Bracebridge for the Bracebridge Fastball League's annual tournament, which featured sixteen teams.
The team finished the round robin with a 3-0 record.
Game 1: 9-2W over Boston Pizza with HRs from Derek Martin and Chris Golden. Rene Roncali had the win for "Ottawa".
Game 2: 3-2W over Sagamok. Will Dunk had the win for Ottawa.
Game 3: 9-2W over Co-op Razorbacks. WP: Rene Rancoli
Semis: 10-5W over Diamond Kings. Derek Martin had 2HRs. WP: Will Dunk.
The finals saw two undefeated teams go head to head as Ottawa took on Pickering. Ottawa jumped out to a quick lead as they scored three runs in the second inning, then added two more runs in the third and fourth.
Heading into the bottom of the 5th with a 7-1 lead the boys thought they had it in the bag but Pickering battled back scoring six runs before Ottawa could record an out. With a huge crowd looking on Pickering managed to complete the comeback and beat Ottawa by a final score of 8-7.
The boys would like to send out a special thanks to Ted Conway and everyone in the Bracebridge Men's Fastball League for their hospitality and a very well run tourney.
Special shout out to the folks at Charlie's Tiki Bar. If you're in the Muskoka region, check it out!
