West Carleton Electric wins Friday Night Fastball game 9-2 over Kars
West Carleton Elecrtric won the annual Friday Night Fastball game in Fitzroy Harbour, defeating the Kars Aces 9-2.
Andy Barber earned the win for the Electric while Luke Severson took the loss for the Aces.
The Electric scored two in the bottom of the first to take an early lead they would never relinquish. Trevor Barton lead off with a single and scored on Andy Barber's triple. Mike Cavanagh the waited on a two-strike off speed pitch to cash Barber and put the 'Trics up 2-0.
Kristian Knapp's solo homer for Kars in the third narrowed the lead to 2-1.
West Carleton responded in the bottom of the third by scoring three. With one out, Mike Cavanagh doubled. Mike scored on Jeff Cavanagh's off hand double. Derek Barber's two run homer deep to right made the score 5-1 for Fitzroy.
The Aces got one back in the top of the sixth. Knapp singled to lead off, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Cory Morrison's grounder to second.
The Electric ended things in the bottom of the sixth by scored in four to invoke the run rule. With one out, Barton reached on an error. Andy Barber's infield single put men on first and second and a flare single by Mike Cavanagh loaded the bases. Severson induced a strike out to get a second man retired. Adam Brown's swinging bunt was then misfielded, allowing him to reach base and scoring two. Derek Barber then doubled to score one and Neil Murphy hit an RBI single to end the game, with the final 9-2.
With a solid night at the plate and a stellar game pitching, Andy Barber gets the nod as Caveman's Choice for player of the game.
