Pirates beat 56ers 13-1
Angered by a local reporter's attempt at humour at their expense, the Pirates took it out on the 56ers last night in the battle of the Smiths. Jason Smith got the start for the Pirates while the 56ers countered with Adam Smith.
After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates broke the game open scoring five runs in the bottom of the second. Mike Noftall, Marcel Mondoux, Aaron Amo and Lindsay Medynsky started the rally with four consecutive singles. Aaron Amo knocked in Mike Noftall, and Lindsay Medynski knocked in Marcel Mondoux and Aaron Amo. Kevin Williams reached base on a fielder's choice. Then Kevin Schonfeld, Joe Allan and Derick Bulley kept the rally going with three consecutive singles with Joe Allan knocking in Kevin Williams and Derick Bulley knocking in Kevin Schonfeld. The inning ended with the Pirates batting around the order.
The Pirates added three more runs in the bottom of the third. Mike Noftall got things started again with a single up the middle and Marcel Mondoux followed with a two run homer. The 56ers brought in Trevor Scott to replace Adam Smith. Aaron Amo promptly hit a double and was driven in by a Lindsay Medynski single. Trevor Watts then followed with a single but was left on base. After two complete innings the Pirates led 8-0.
The 56ers finally got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Dan Bradley led off the inning with a single and was pushed around the bases by a Ben Gigliotti double. John Craig walked to load the bases. Then Trevor Scott hit a long sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Dan Bradley.
The Pirates came right back with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Trevor Power and Mike Noftall led off the inning with two walks. Marcel Mondoux hit a single to load the bases. Paul Maher reached first on a fielder's choice. Then Lindsay Medynski knocked in Mike Noftall with a single. Trevor Watts reached first on a fielder's choice. Kevin Schonfeld and Joe Allan followed with singles and knocking in Paul Maher and Lindsay Medynski. Dan Bradley came in to pitch for the 56ers. Then with two out an outfield error on Derick Bulley's long fly ball allowed Trevor Watts and Kevin Schonfeld to score unearned runs.
The 56ers failed to score in the bottom of the inning although Dan Jessiman hit a two out double. The final score was Kanata Pirates 13 Stittsville 56ers 1.
The Caveman player of the game was Pirates pitcher Jason Smith who held the 56ers to one run over five innings with 7 strikeouts. Honourable mention goes to Marcel Mondoux with two singles and a homerun, two runs scored and two RBIs and Lindsay Medynski with three singles, one run scored and four RBIs.
