Quyon beats Stittsville 7-4 - with details

The Quyon Flyers defeated the Stittsville 56ers 7-4 on the Quebec side in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Thursday night.

Matt Greer earned the win on the slab while Dan Konkle took the loss.

The Flyers used the long ball as brothers Dennis and Joe McCleary both hit homers, as did Greer to help his cause.

Details from Shawn Laframboise

Quyon 7 Stittsville 4
Stittsville took the boat over to QC Thursday night to face the Flyers.  Matt Greer once again took the mound for the Flyers while the 56ers countered with Dan Konkle.
In the 1st inning Ryan Bond worked a one out walk but Greer induced two fly outs to end the inning.  In the bottom half, Shawn Laframboise reached on an error to the second baseman and advanced to third on Greer’s single.  Greer swiped second uncontested to put two in scoring position for Joe McCleary.  McCleary ripped one over the right field fence to give Quyon an early 3-0 lead.
Stittsville answered back with one in the 2nd.  Ben Gigliotti led off with a base hit to right field, ending up with a triple when the ball got past an outstretched diving Quyon player.  Gigliotti then scored on a Darren Ladouceur single.
Quyon put two more on the board in the bottom half of the frame.  Randy Frobel reached on an error to the pitcher to lead off the inning.  David Hobbs then reached first on a bunt single.  After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, both would score on Dennis McCleary’s single.
The 56ers narrowed the gap to 5-2 in the 3rd.  Scott Jessiman drew a 2-out walk and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball.  Scott Parsons then knocked him in with a base hit.
The score stayed the same until the bottom half of the 4th, where the Flyers added two more via the long ball.  Dennis McCleary ripped a one out offering down the left field line.  Greer also knocked one out to the opposite field with a towering shot down the right field line.
The Flyers seemingly had the game in control, cruising through to the 7th, but Stittsville wouldn’t go away.  With one out in the 7th, Tim Maisonneuve hit a double to the gap in left centre that was just out of reach of the diving centre fielder.  Tyler Nystedt and Bond each hit hard ground balls to the left side of the infield that proved too hot to handle, loading the bases for Jessiman with only one out.  Maisoneuve came in to score when Jessiman was hit by a pitch, making the score 7-3.  Greer walked another batter, putting the tying run on base and narrowing the gap to 3 runs.  A ground ball to third base enabled the Flyers to get the lead runner at the plate for the second out of the inning before Greer induced a fly ball to end the game, securing the victory for the home side.
Caveman’s choice player of the game goes to Greer for pitching the complete game and going 2/4 at the dish with a homerun.
