West Carleton wins 9-4 in Fitzroy over Stittsville

West Carleton Electric won 9-4 over the Stittsville 56ers in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night as the teams combined for 26 hits.

Steve Cavanagh had the win for the home side, while Darren Featherstone took the loss with relief form Trevor Scott.

The 56ers opened the scoring in the top of the first. Tyler Nystedt and Ryan Bond singled back-to-back. Featherstone then ripped a liner off the left field fence, but with the base runners tagging up, it was only a single and the bases were loaded. After a line out to third, Scott Jessiman's sac fly to left scored Nystedt to make it 1-0 for Stittsville.

Stittsville scored another two in the third. Nystedt singled to start the inning, and scored on Bond's triple to right field. A long sac fly to centre field by Featherstone scored Bond to put the Sixers up 3-0.

West Carleton tied things up in the bottom of three. Neil Murphy singled to start, then moved to second on a ground out. Kevin Shonfield bunted successfully to put men on the corners. Mike Cavanagh then singled, scoring Murph. After a pop up, Andy Barber also singled scoring Shonfield. Jeff Cavanagh followed with a single that scored Mike Cav to make it 3-3.

The Electric took the lead in the fourth. Shawn Rebertz singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and then took third on a ground out. Shonfield walked to put men on first and third. Mike Cavanagh's single scored Rebertz. That was followed by a triple by Jeff Barber which cashed Shonfield and Cavanagh. Jeff B subsequently scored on brother Andy's single.

The home team added to their lead in the fifth on a two run homer over the "Grey Monster" in right field by Murphy, scoring Rebertz who had singled.

Bond's solo homer in the top of the seventh ended the scoring, making the final 9-4 for Fitzroy.
