Broker4Tickets wins Durk Sherman Classic in Elkland
Ottawa Broker4Tickets won the 12-team Durk Sherman Classic on Labour Day weekend in Ekland, PA. It was the 65th annual event and sources say (unconfirmed at this time) that Broker may be the first ever Canadian-based team to win it.
B4T defeated the host Elkland Softball Association team 5-2 in the final with Quebec native Patrice Leclerc earning the win and Jorge Segura from the Guatemalan national team taking the loss.
Segura was selected top pitcher for the weekend while Gregg Garrity of Broker4Tickets was named the event's most valuable player.
Broker went 2-1 in pool play and got the fourth seed, earning them a double life in the playoff round. They won three straight in the playoff round to take the title.
Elkland was also 2-1 in pool play but got the fifth seed and had to play in through the single life round. They won five straight games in the playoff round before losing in the final game.
Party Lake from Kingston finished tie for fifth at 3-2, after going 3-0 in pool play including a win over Elkland.
Other eastern Ontario teams participating included West Carleton Electric who finished with a 3-2 record and the Greenbush Generals who won 2 and lost 3.
