Valley As split doubleheader

On Fan Appreciation Night in Carp, the Ottawa Valley As split their Greater Ottawa Fastball League doubleheader on Thursday.

Ottawa Valley As 13 Micksburg Twins 5

In the opener, the Valley As defeated Micksburg Twins 13-5. Micksburg put up five runs in the top of the first inning, but that was all the scoring they were able to do. The As responded with 13 runs over the next four innings to win the game. Adam Rueckwald was the winning pitcher. Matt McIntyre took the loss and had relief from Brendan Hennessy.

West Carleton Electric 6 Ottawa Valley As 0

The second game saw the West Carleton Electric prevail 6-0 over Ottawa Valley. Andy Barber had the shutout win, allowing only four hits. Ben Broek took the loss.

WC scored in the top of the first. Barber singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Trevor Barton, and scored on Chris Costello's two out single.

The Electric added a run in the second. Mitch Taylor was hit by a pitch but put out on a fielder's choice that saw Neil Murphy reach first. Dave Bahm, back from almost two year hiatus from the 'Trics, then singled. After a strike out, Barber walked to load the bases. Trevor Barton singled to drive in Murphy.

The visitors put up three in the fourth inning. Bahm was hit by a pitch, and Alex Boucaud singled. Barber then bunted for a single to load the bases. Barton hit a blooper over second base that couldn't be caught, but as Barber was put out, Bahm scored. Boucaud scored from third on a wild pitch, and Barton scored later on a Costello single.

The final run for West Carleton was in the sixth. Mike Cavanagh reached on an error with one out. Costello's double moved M Cav to third, and he scored on Jeff Cavanagh's ground out to shortstop.
