Twins and Rebels win on Thursday

The Micksburg Twins and Orleans Rebels won in Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff action on Thursday night.

In Manotick, the Rebels edged the Kars Aces 1-0 in playoff Game 3 based on a strong pitching performance from Andy Barber who only allowed three hits, striking out 14. Brad Porter took the loss, allowing three hits over four innings of work; Cory Alkerton threw three innings in relief and only allowed one hit.

The lone run for Orleans was in the top of the first. Matt Healey singled, and was brought in by Andy Barber's RBI double to left field.

Chad Milne, Kristian Knapp and Cory Alkerton had hits for the Aces.

In Micksburg, the Twins defeated the Manotick Brewers 6-2 in playoff Game 4. Joran Graham had the win, allowing only two hits and striking out 18. Luc D'Entremont took the loss.

Tyler Alexander led off the game for the Brewers with a single, but he was stranded when Graham struck out the next three batters.

The Twins got on the board in the bottom of the first - Andy McIntyre singled and was scored on a homer from Graham.

Micksburg had two baserunners in the second with a Scott Conroy single and a Noah Fleurie walk, but they were stranded.

In the bottom of three, Micksburg scored two. Graham walked, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Chad Costello double. An RBI single from Conroy made it 4-0.

The Twins added another in the fourth. Fleurie walked again, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Graham double to the right-centre gap. The inning could have been worse if were not for a spectacular catch by Brewers left fielder Chris MacFarlane who caught a long fly with his back to the the infield.

In the fifth the home team added one more. Conroy hit an infield single to go three for three on the night. Joe Mick hit into a fielder's choice and was replaced by pinch runner Nolan Costello on first. A Paul Griffith single put runner on the corners, and Fleurie's RBI single made it 6-0.

The visitors got two in the seventh. MacFarlane walked and stole second. Trevor Beaulieu hit a single to right field that got by the outfielder all the way to the fence and both runs plated. However, Graham got out of the inning to preserve the win.

Based on tonight's results the next playoff games are:
