Micksburg wins GOFL title
The Micksburg Twins won the Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff title on Friday night in Micksburg, with a 7-0 win over the Orleans Rebels in the single game final in front of an estimated crowd of about 125.
The Twins went undefeated in all three of their games in the playoff bracket to win the title. The Rebels won three and lost two - both to Micksburg.
Joran Graham was the winning pitcher for the Twins, not allowing a hit over five innings of work and striking out 11. Andy Barber took the loss for the Rebels. He also struck out 11.
Orleans got their only baserunner of the game in the first when Andy Barber reached on an error. He got to second on a wild pitch but was stranded.
The Twins got on the board in the bottom of the first. Graham walked, moved to second on wild pitch and got to third on a strikeout that required the catcher to make the play at first. Scott Conroy's hard hit ball was misplayed allowing Graham to score.
Micksburg made it 2-0 in the third. Graham was intentionally walked to lead off. After a strikeout, a ground out advanced Graham to second. Jared Steege's RBI double scored Graham.
The home team put the run rule in effect to win the game in the bottom of the fifth. After an out, there was once again an intentional walk to Graham, followed by a Chad Costello walk. Conroy's homer to centrefield made it 5-0. Steege then hit another single, followed by a Matt McIntyre triple. Joseph Mick's sac fly to left field plated McIntyre to seal the victory.
