Orleans advances to GOFL finals

The Orleans Rebels advanced to the Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff final game with an 11-3 win on Wednesday night at Pierre Rocque Park over the Manotick Brewers.

Andy Barber was the winning pitcher, allowing seven hits and striking out 11 over five innings. Luc D'Entremont's impressive playoff run came to an end as he took the loss. 

The Rebels got two in the top of the first. Jefferson Roman lead off with a single, followed by two run homer for Matt Healey.

Chris MacFarlane led off the bottom of second for Manotick with a double. Trevor Beaulieu walked, then Riley Dunbar single drove in MacFarlane to make it 2-1 for the Rebels.

In the top of third for Orléans, Andre Manville led of with single. After a sac bunt and ground out, he was brought home by a two run homer by Roman.

A line drive homer by Luc D'Entremont in the bottom of the third halved the lead to 4-2 for Orleans.

The fourth inning saw a walk to Andy Barber who stole second and took third on overthrow. Derek Barber's single scored him to put up Orleans 5-2.

Orleans scored six in the fifth inning. After a fly out, Kevin Shonfield walked and advanced to second on a ground out. And error put Healey on base and moved Shonfield to third. A walk to Andy Barber loaded the bases. A misplayed pop fly with two out allowed two runs to score. A single by Derek Barber scored another run. When another ball dropped in, another run scored. Andre Mainville doubled to score another two score before the inning ended.

Down nine, Manotick had to score three to keep the game going. They got a run on a Tyler Alexander solo homer, but that was all and the game ended 11-3 for Orleans on the run rule.

Orleans will travel to Micksburg on Friday October 8 to play the Twins for the GOFL title at 8 p.m. in front of what is anticipated to be a big crowd.
