Barber throws perfect game in Blackburn

Report from the BMFL

Thursday night in Blackburn saw a pitchers duel resulting in a rare outcome as Los Caballos faced off against the Orleans Blue Jays, Thursday night in the Blackburn Men's Fastball League.

The game was 0-0 until the 6th inning. The Blue Jays had only 4 hits going into the sixth as a result of solid pitching from Will Lowe and solid defense from all of the Los Caballos players. The Caballos entered the sixth inning having 0 hits as a result of an incredible performance from Andy Barber.

Lowe started the sixth inning by getting a fly ball out. Andre Mainville was up next and singled, thi brought Andy to bat. Los Caballos intentionally walked Andy (the only walk yielded by Lowe), which brought Jeremy Grimes up to the plate. Grimes hit into a fielders choice which then brought up Miguel Paille, who delivered a hard line drive to the outfield which resulted in the only run of the game scoring.

Both pitchers were locked in as neither surrendered a walk aside from the intentional walk in the 6th. Wilmer Lovera almost broke up the perfect game when he hit a sharp ground ball that SS Matt Ellis fielded and made an off balance throw which just beat the runner to the base, an extremely close play. 3B Miguel Paille made two plays in the field, and 2B Travis Valois made one. Los Caballos appeared to threaten to reach base when Juan Morales bunt rolled just foul along the 1B line in what would have been potentially a bunt for base hit. Andy struck out 17 of the 21 batters he faced and earned the rare perfect game in what was an extremely close 0-0 game until the score finally broke open in the 6th.
