WC U20 advance to Sunday
West Carleton Electric won two and lost one on Saturday to advance to the top four on Sunday at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association U20 Men's Provincial tournament in Grafton.
The first game of Saturday saw #6 seed WC upset #3 seed St. George Aces by a score of 5-0. Gabe Brown earned the win going the distance for the Electric, allowing only five hits and striking out four. Isaac Roth and Easton de Belleval threw for the Aces. Alex Strathern had a two run homer for WC as well as an RBI single. Conner Hopper had a solo homer for the U20 Trics, Colton Lecuyer had two singles, and Bryce Rebertz, Kaden Fowler, and Brown all had hits as well.
Next up was a game against #2 seed Chatsworth Longhorns, a 3-2 defeat for West Carleton. Fowler threw well in defeat, allowing five hits, striking out eight and giving up only one earned run, and also driving in a run with a sacrifice fly. Joe Weiler got the win for Chatsworth, throwing a three hitter and striking out twelve. Rebertz had a walk, a bunt single and a sacrifice bunt. Strathern hit an RBI triple and Hopper had a double.
The final game of the day for WC was 10-1 win over the Hillsdale Haymakers in six innings. Brown got the win, allowing three hits and striking out three. Rebertz was three for four with two runs scored and Hopper was two for three with a walk and scored three runs. Strathern had two doubles and a walk. Jack Barton legged out an infield single, stole a base and scored in a pinch hit opportunity.
West Carleton will play Sunday at 9 a.m. versus the Stone Mills Thrashers. The winner of that game will play the loser of Chatsworth Longhorns and Plattsville Lightning at 11 a.m.
