Big Bud shuts out 56ers 2-0

Big Bud the Spud Hanlon won a pitcher's duel over Dan Bradley on Wednesday night in GOFL play in Fitzroy Harbour. The game was very quickly played, clocking in at around the one hour mark.

Final score was 2-0 for the home team as West Carleton Electric improved to 5-3 in league play on the season and Stittsville fell to 3-3.

Hanlon threw a six-hit shutout, with 11 strikeouts and no walks. Bradley also pitched well, allowing only three hits and one earned run, striking out four and walking one.

WC Electric scored in the first. Jon Daley drew a one-out walk and Michael Cavanagh reached base on the only error of the game putting runners at first and third. Shawn Rebertz then executed a perfect squeeze bunt, scoring the first run of the game.

The home side added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, as Steve "Beef" Johnson led off with a double. Troy Wilson then hit a single to put runners at first and third. Adam Brown then hit into a double play, but scored Johnson from third, making the score 2-0.

Stittsville threatened in the top of the seventh as Darren Featherstone and David Ashkanase hit singles, but Big Bud closed the door to win the game for the 'Trics.
