Quyon Flyers defeat Orleans Rebels

Game Report courtesy of Kenny Fleck

Wednesday night at the RA Centre saw the two first place teams square off in what ended up being an excellent fastball game. The Orleans Rebels coming off a second place finish at the Ontario Midget Elims were facing the Quyon Flyers. The Flyers not having played in over a week didn't waste any time getting started as Matt Greer hit a lead off home run to start what was a 2 run inning for the Flyers.

Flyers starting pitcher Luke Young pitched 3 solid innings for the Flyers giving up only 3 runs. Those three runs came off a monster blast by Rebels first baseman in the bottom of the 3rd with the Flyers leading 2-1. In the top of the 4th Flyers catcher Joe McCleary tied the game back up at 4 with a home run of his own over the right field wall.

After that both teams fighting for first place decided to turn things over to there big boys and they definatly proved they were the teams number one pitcher. Flyers Matt Greer and Rebels Chad Hargrove were both mowing batters down at an incredibly fast pace until the 7th when things started to get interesting. With a runner on third and one out Flyers first baseman Kenny Fleck has hit in the neck with a wild pitch. It looked a lot worse then what it actually was thankfully. That put runners on first and second with Jordan Kearns at bat who executed a perfect squeeze bunt scoring Dennis McCleary. Later that inning Greer hit a double to the fence scoring 2 more and putting the Flyers up 8-4.

In an error filled bottom half the Flyers got lucky and held the Rebels to one run winning the game 8-5. The Flyers now hold down first place overall. The Flyers head to Cobden tonight to play the Micksburg Twins in UOVMFL action at 8:30. And Rumor has it they are hopping on the Ferry to play WC Electric on Sunday evening at 5:00.

Easily the best part of the game was the reaction to the HBP. Priceless!

Well, a 2 strike change-up that gets away on ya can hardly be considered head hunting.
