Lomor Printers looking forward to 2007 campaign

In an exclusive interview with fitzroyfastball, Tony Riches, pitcher/coach/player personnel director/money pit for Manotick Lomor Printers had these comments on the conclusion of the veteran team's season last night:

"It was a typical end to a frustrating season for us. Injuries and work commitments plagued us throughout the year.

We used the fourth place pitcher on our opening-day depth chart more than any other and it showed. Lyle Schell and Jason Smith combined to pitch in four regular season games and Trevor Lahey only recovered from a rib injury in time to join the team already down 1-0 in the playoff series.

Losing regulars Bobby Jack Hart, Reno Rushford and John Lindsey forced us into an 'open tryout' scenario for position players and we never really had a set lineup the entire season.

However I can't say enough about the players that worked their asses off right up until the last pitch and stayed focused and positive throughout. Veterans like Coxie [Don Cox], Calvin [Medynski], Lindsay [Medynski] and Pudge [Mike Branchaud] understand that this was a rebuilding year and see the positives that occasionally showed.

The additions of Joe Allan, Steve Walman, Trevor Power and Steve Edgerton are solid building blocks along with the other young players that contributed as well. The fact that shortstop Adam Bickell, just returning from a month-long back injury, missed the last game with shingles, of all things, just puts an exclamation point on this entire season.

I'm sure the other teams and managers in this league know this was a tough year for us and expect we'll be stronger next season.

Good luck to the remaining teams."
