Valley wins 4-3, RA Final Series tied at 1-1

from Shawn Laframboise

Game two in the RA league finals took place last night with Valley jumping out to a great start in an effort to make a statement on why they're still very much alive.

Darren Featherstone got his second straight start and retired the first three batters of the game, striking out two. Matt Greer got his second straight start and didn't fair out so well.

After surrendering a double and an RBI single to the first two Valley batters, Greer served up a two run homer to Chad Milne that left the park in straight away center.

The score remained 3 - 0 until the sixth inning with Greer settling down and the Flyers threatening every inning but were unable to cash in the runners in scoring position.

Dennis McCleary finally got to Featherstone as he got the Flyers on the scoreboard with a solo homerun. Matt Greer then came to the plate and knocked a double to center field. Featherstone retired McCord however Joe McCleary cashed in the second Flyer run, bringing the score to 3 - 2. After reaching second base (for some reason) McCleary was feeling the wheels and attempted to steal third, but was thrown out for the second out of the inning.

Greer got out of the bottom of the sixth and the Flyers continued to threaten in the top of the seventh. Shawn Laframboise led off with a walk, and was advanced to second on a Jordan Kearns bunt. Luke Young was then retired for the second out, and Valley was one out away from tying the series. This brought up Dennis McCleary and he continued to swing a hot bat, smashing a triple to the gap in right-center. McCleary had to remain at third after he fell flat on his face in between second and third base. Greer was then thrown out at first by Milne for the third out.

Greer struck out Tyler Cox for the first out of the seventh. Dave Millette reached first on a walk after a very questionable call would've have been strike three but ended up giving the Valley second basemen the free pass. Shawn Moher then came into the game to pinch hit for Roy Black but Greer got him out on strikes as well. After stealing second base, the winning run was cashed in by Brett Dugan with a ground ball that was misplaced by the Flyers second baseman.

Game three will take place on Wednesday night.

Sorry it wasn't clear. Dennis' triple in the seventh scored the tying run. Finished 4 - 3
