Blitz play well in Sydenham tourney

from Sam Oliver / Derick Bulley

Kingston Cowboys – 2
Ottawa Blitz – 2

P – (Kingston) Ryan Sharpe (5IP, 2R) Jason Smith;
P- (Ottawa) Jamie Blakely

Game Notes: Both Kingston runs were unearned as a result of some poor defensive play. Blitz runs came from back-2-back sac flies off the bats of Darren Featherstone and Sam Oliver in the first inning scoring Blakely and Terry Redden

Ottawa Blitz – 3
Knoxville-Ontario – 1

WP – (Ottawa) Darren Featherstone;
LP - (Knoxville) Blake Orr

Game Notes: Blitz score in the top of the first. Featherstone hit a two out hard come backer at the pitcher that was too hot to handle. Oliver followed with a walk, and Featherstone scored from second on the single off the bat of Chris Carrol. Featherstone hit a two out single up the middle which scored two more in the 5th.

Knoxville held scoreless until the 7th, when Lyle Brown tripled to lead off the inning, and scored on single from the next batter. Featherstone was able to close out the game without further damage.

Ottawa Blitz – 0
St. Leaonard Jrs – 6

WP - Francis LeClaire
LP – Derrick Bulley

Game Notes: The quick bats and feet of the Quebec Jr. team finally came alive in their third game of the day after struggling against Carp and K-O.

Ottawa Blitz – 2
Carp I4C Victory – 0

WP – Jamie Blakely
LP - Paul Ceppi, Chad Hargrove

Game Notes: In this must win to advance game, Blakely comes up with the performance of the weekend and pitches a masterful perfect game. A Chris Carrol RBI single and a Derick Bulley homerun provided the offence which allowed the Blitz to finish atop their division and advance to a match up against CPI in one of the semi finals. I4C takes second in the division to face North Fred in the other semi.

CPI – 6
Ottawa Blitz – 0

WP – Shaun Winship
LP - Darren Featherstone, Derick Bulley

Game Notes: A three run blast off the bat of Winship in the first inning set the tone for the game. Blitz couldn’t muster an attack in response.

This was a very good weekend for this young Ottawa Blitz team. They held their own and then some in surprising some very good competition.
