Carp I4C Victory Opens Pre-season With a Win on Saturday

The Carp I4C Victory opened 2007 with a pre-season game against the Shawville Snappers of the RA League.
In a nine-inning game as agreed to by both teams and with unlimited substitutions and batting orders, Carp came out on top 6-2 at the Carp Fairgrounds on Saturday afternoon.
The Carp attack was paced by Carp newcomer and former Ottawa Team Easton Thunder player, Al Read, who went 2-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Carp shortstop, Kevin McGuire, was 1-4 with a single, RBI and a run scored. McGuire also reached on an error and hit the ball hard in his two other plate appearances.
For the Snappers, Big Joe McCleary had a line drive home run and Matt Greer also contributed with a solo home run of his own.
Paul Ceppi pitched the first three innings of the game for Carp and was followed by Chad Hargrove for the next three. Trevor Wood pitched an inning and Neil Cooke completed the game with two strong innings of work.
Veteran Earl Kearns started for Shawville with relief from Greer.
The Carp I4C Victory opens the Greater Ottawa Fastball League regular season on Thursday, May 10th at 8:30 PM at the Carp Fairgrounds against Chad Hargrove and the expansion Orleans Gators.
