Quyon defeats WC Electric 4-0 in GOFL opener

The Quyon Flyers defeated the Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric by a score of 4-0 in GOFL play on Sunday afternoon in Quyon.

On a sunny afternoon, with a sizeable crowd in attendance, the Flyers made their successful debut capitalizing on home runs by Matt Greer and Joe McCleary.

Greer had the pitching win, with Joran Graham getting the save in combining for a 2-hit shutout of Fitzroy. Jim Ryan took the loss for the Harbour, with Brad Porter seeing some work in relief.

Quyon broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a solo shot by Greer off WC starter Ryan.

With Greer giving up the ball to Graham after four innings of no-hit ball, WC Electric threatened in the top of the fifth, with back-to-back singles by Todd Clouthier and Jason Armstrong. However the midget-aged Graham threw out of the jam, and the Flyers kept their two run lead.

Porter came on to throw for Fitzroy Harbour in the bottom of the fifth. With Graham on base, Porter threw a riseball to McCleary that didn't quite rise, and "Big Joe" put the pitch over the right field fence for a two run homer to put Quyon up 4-0.
