Blitz lose 3-2 nail biter to Easton

from Derick Bulley

The Ottawa Blitz opened the season last night in Manotick against the defending champions, Team Easton.

The Blitz jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Gerry Sancartier’s sacrifice fly followed Darron Barr’s leadoff triple in the bottom of the second inning.

Easton responded with a leadoff triple of their own in the top of the third. Corey Morrison stroked a liner to left centre and was cashed in on a Randy Peck ground out to short stop.

The defense and pitching held steady until the sixth inning when Easton scratched out three singles in a row, the last one by Randy Peck to cash Kevin Chevrier and Corey Morrison.

The Blitz brought the game one run closer in the bottom of the seventh on Gerry Sancartier’s solo shot down the line in right, but were unable to tie the game.

Dan Konkle pitched the complete game victory for Easton, fanning 12, walking one, and surrendering 2 earned runs on 2 hits.

Derick Bulley suffered the loss, pitching 5 2/3 innings, striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing all 3 Easton runs on 4 hits. Jamie Blakely came on in relief, allowed one hit and K'ed 2 batters.
