Konkle strikes out 20 - and loses to Manotick
from Tony Riches
Manotick used some timely hitting to ruin a stellar pitching performance by Easton`s Dan Konkle. The ace pitcher managed to strike out 20 batters but still ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 score.
Manotick opened the scoring in the second inning with a Rich Antunes RBI single. Easton took advantage of a wild spell by Manotick starter Shannon Borho to take a 2-1 lead in their half of the inning. Randy Peck led off with a walk and, a few screen gems later, found himself at third. Cory Morrison singled home Peck and he too circled the bases one pitch at a time, eventually scoring on a wild one. Pat O`Connor tripled home Morrison in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 3-1 before Borho settled into a groove for the remainder of the game. Manotick`s big inning was the fifth where they used 5 singles, including a 2-strike bunt single by Calvin Medynski, a 2 RBI knock by Mike Branchaud and an RBI hit by John Lindsey, to take a 4-3 lead. Borho made that lead stand up, stranding runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh for the victory.
For Manotick;
Branchaud 2-4, 2RBI
Antunes 2-3, R, RBI
Lindsey 1-4, RBI
Adam Bickell 1-3, R, HBP
Lindsay Medynski 1-2, R, BB
Calvin Medynski 1-3, R, BB
