Stittsville 8 Orleans 1

from Sam Oliver

The Stittsville 56ers defeated the visiting Orleans Gators by a score of 8 - 1 in a mercy shortened 5 inning game.

Fortunately for the 56ers, Dan Bradley's right shin was feeling little ill effect from the Randy Peck line drive that forced him to leave the game the night before, and he was the Stittsville starter on the night. For the Orleans Gators, their leader Chad Hargrove got the nod.

Orleans would strike first and wasted no time doing it. After recording the first two outs in order, Bradley surrendered a free pass to Orleans catcher Matt Bowman. The next batter, Hargrove, stroked a clutch triple into the right-center field gap, scoring Bowman from first. This would be all the offense the Gators could muster.

Stittsville answered in the bottom of the first. John Craig started the attack with a lead off walk and stole second. Dan Jessiman drew a one out walk of his own, and advanced into scoring position on a Hargrove wild pitch. Darren Featherstone singled over the head of Orleans third baseman Max Serre, scoring both Craig and Jessiman, with the throw to the plate allowing Featherstone to reach second base. With Sam Oliver batting, Featherstone was able to take third on another Hargrove wild pitch. This would prove costly as Oliver lined out to center field deep enough to score the run.

The 56ers added another run in the 2nd and four more in the 4th. Tim Power started the 2nd inning with a double, and scored on a clutch 2 out single off the bat of John Craig. In the 4th, Hargrove would be replaced by Eric Lafleur after issuing a one out walk to 56er left fielder James Holden. Lafleur walked Craig, gave up a double to Scott Herriot, and a homerun to Dan Jessiman to make the score 8 - 1. After giving up a single to Featherstone and hitting Oliver with a pitch, Lafleur was able to induce a ground out and a fly out to end the inning.

Featherstone came on to pitch the 5th for the 56ers and was greeted with a Matt Alkerton come backer. Featherstone didn't field it cleanly and then over threw first base to allow Alkerton to reach second. Eric Lafleur then singled to put runners on the corners. Featherstone was
able to escape the jam by striking out the next three Orleans batters in order.

Dan Bradley gets the win, pitching 4 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit, with 1 BB, while striking out 7. Darren Featherstone pitched 1 inning of relief, not allowing a run, giving up one hit while striking out 3.

For Orleans, Chad Hargrove gets tagged with the loss, allowing 5 earned runs on 4 hits, 3 BBs, 2 WP, while striking out 8. Eric Lafleur worked one inning of relief, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits, 1 BB, 1 HB, with 0K.

Chad Hargrove (3B) and Eric Lafleur (1B) had the hits for the losers, while Jessiman (1B, HR) and Featherstone (2 x 1B) had two hits each for the 56ers.

I am assuming you meant Lafleur went into pitch in relief, so I adjusted the site accordingly.
