Team Easton 8 Stittsville 3 - updated

from Sam Oliver

Team Easton, who lost to the 56ers earlier this week, exacted a measure of revenge with an 8-3 victory at Alexander Grove in Stittsville on Tuesday night.

Dan Bradley once again started for Stittsville, and after retiring the first two Easton batters, have up a double to right fielder Cory Morrison. The next batter, Randy Peck lined a hard shot that caught Bradley square on the right shin, forcing him to leave the game. He was replaced by Darren Featherstone, who walked the first batter he faced, Dan Konkle, to load the bases. With two out and the bases juiced, Chad Milne fought off an inside rise, fisting a flare just out of reach of the infield, scoring both Morrison and Peck.

Stittsville threatened in the top half of the second, when a pair of walks and a well executed sacrifice bunt, put runners at second and third with two out. Easton pitcher, Dan Konkle, was able to escape the jam, getting Tim Power to ground out to end the inning.

The 56ers would get one run back in the top half of the third inning. John Craig led off the inning and reached on an error. He advanced to second on a Konkle wild pitch, and was moved to third via a Darren Ladouceur sac bunt. With one out, Dan Jessiman delivered a fly ball deep enough to left field to score the run.

Easton would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Randy Peck started the rally with a one out single into left field. Featherstone struck out the next Easton batter, but once again with two out, Chad Milne hit a Texas league single to keep the rally alive. The 56ers looked to be out of the jam when John Peck hit a ground ball to first base that was fielded cleanly, however Peck, who never gives up on a play, was able to race the first baseman to the bag for an infield single which loaded the bases. The next batter, Pat O'Connor, lifted a high fly ball into centerfield which dropped into no mans land to score two runs and extend the lead to 4 - 1.

In the top half of the 5th inning, the 56ers would close the gap to 4- 3. A lead off walk to Darren Ladouceur followed by a Jessiman single and a Featherstone walk, loaded the bases with no outs. Sam Oliver then hit a hard ground ball that Easton second baseman, Scott Marion couldn't come up with, scoring two runs and putting runners on the corners. The 56ers then tried the slow steal of second in an attempt to score the runner from third, Team Easton defensed it perfectly cutting down Featherstone in a close play at the plate. With two out, Rob Rattray hit a sharp single up the middle that might have scored Oliver from second, however, Morrison who had taken over in centerfield at the start of the inning, was positioned perfectly and fielded the ball very quickly, holding Oliver at third base.

Easton added a run in the 5th and three more runs in the 6th to put the game out of reach, capping the score at 8 - 3.

In the 5th inning, Randy Peck's and Chad Milne's third hit each on the night, a double and a single, accounted for the run.

In the 6th Lukas Kamps walked to lead off the inning and Kyle Olsen reached on an error, moving Kamps to third, but Olsen was tagged out trying to take second on the play. Morrison drove in Kamps with a single, and Randy Peck reached base for the fourth time on the night, drawing a walk. Dan Konkle then singled into left field, however the ball skipped passed the 56er outfielder to score both Morrison and Peck.

Dan Jessiman and Darren Ladouceur each had two hits for the losers, while Randy Peck and Chad Milne had three hits each for the winners (Peck reached safely and scored in all 4 of his plate appearances).

Dan Konkle pitched the win, going 7 innings, allowing 3 runs, on 7 hits and 6 BBs, with 8Ks. For Stittsville, Dan Bradley went 2/3 of inning and is charged with 2 earned runs on 2 hits, 0 BB, 0K. Darren Featherstone takes the loss, going 5 and 1/3, allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 10 hits, 1 BB, 1 HB, with 9K.

The rubber match of the season series is scheduled for this Thursday night at the Carp Fairgrounds. Game time is 7:00pm.
