Stittsville pounds WC Electric 11-2 - the story

from Sam Oliver

The Stittsville 56ers rebounded from a pair of losses in Quyon on Tuesday night with an 11 - 2 win over the visiting West Carleton Electrics on Wednesday night at Alexander Grove in Stittsville.

Stittsville open the scoring in the bottom half of the first. John Craig drew a lead off walk, advanced to second on a Scott Jessiman ground ball, and scored on a Dan Jessiman double.

The 'Trics would get one run back in the top half of the third. Designated player Neil Murphy led the inning off with a single. With one out, Jason Armstrong bunted to move Murphy to second base. He would score on a Jon Daley clutch two out single to cut the 56er lead in half.

The 56ers would get that run back plus two more in the bottom half of the third. Once again it was John Craig igniting the offence, this time with a lead off double. Scott Jessiman followed this with a walk, and back to back doubles by Dan Jessiman and Sam Oliver would score three and chase Ryan from the game. Bud Hanlon came on in relief and retired the first two batters he faced on strikes, before loading the bases by issuing a pair of walks to Scott Parsons and Rob Rattray. The 56ers failed to capitalize on the opportunity as Hanlon was able to get Dan Bradley to ground out to end the inning.

West Carleton would get to Bradley for another run in the top half of the 4th. Michael Cavanagh singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a Troy Wilson bunt. Bradley was able to induce a ground ball off the bat of Shawn Rebertz, but once again West Carleton got a clutch two out single, this time from Beef Johnson to score their second run of the ball game.

Stittsville scored 3 more in the bottom half of the 4th. With one out the Jessiman brothers drew a pair of walks. A West Carleton error and a pair of singles by Darren Featherstone and Tim Power would score three and chase Hanlon from the game. He was replaced by Brad Porter who retired the next two 56er batters in order to end the threat.

Dan Bradley pitched a clean 5th inning and the 56ers came to bat in their half with a 4 run lead. Brad Porter struck out the first two batters he faced but was unable to close out the inning. Scott Jessiman singled and Dan Jessiman walked to start the rally. Sam Oliver and Darren Featherstone then hit back to back triples (with Featherstone scoring on a West Carleton throwing error) to round out the scoring. The'Trics facing a nine run lead, conceded the ball game as per the GOFL mercy rule.

Dan Bradley (5IP, 2R, 2ER, 4H, 0BB, 5K) gets the win and Jimmy Ryan (2IP, 4R, 4ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) gets tagged with the loss with relief from Hanlon (1.1IP, 3R, 2ER, 2H, 4BB, 2K) and Porter (1.1IP, 4R, 3ER, 3H,1BB, 3K).
