Big Joe hits three homers - Quyon defeats Blitz 7-0

from Shawn Laframboise

Flyers 7, Blitz 0

On a beautiful night for ball the Quyon COMBAT Flyers and the Ottawa Blitz squared off in their season opener. Quyon took the field with their 'A' game looking sharp from the get-go. Matt Greer took the mound for Quyon making a statement in the first inning striking out the side. He was credited with the win while Derrick Bulley took the loss for the Blitz.

After a quick top half of the first, Flyers lead-off batter Dennis McCleary started the season with a walk. After being sacrificed to second on a bunt to the third baseman, Joseph 'I Love Macaroni' McCleary hit a homerun over the right field fence. Joran Graham then walked and later scored on a Nick Armitage single.

After walking the first two batters in the second, Cooney settled back down and followed up his great first inning with two K's in both the second and third innings.

After Bulley K'd Dennis McCleary to start off the second, Shawn Laframboise singled to right field and was then cashed in by the wider McCleary's second bomb of the game, this time to the opposite field.

With a 5 - 0 lead The Coon handed the ball over to Flyer newcomer Drew Hathway for the fourth, who has played with the Waterdown Hammer prior to this season. Hathway struck out four and walked two in two innings of work.

Joe McCleary hit a solo homerun in the fourth to finish up his stellar night at the plate, going 3-3 with 3 HR and 5 RBI. Hathway also hit a solo homer in his only plate appearance of the evening.

Both Greer and Hathway combined for a no-hitter through five innings of work. Greer went three innings, walking three and striking out seven. Hathway went two innings, walking two batters and striking out four. Bulley pitched all four innings for Ottawa in the loss.
