WC Electric holds on to defeat Quyon 2-1

Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric held on to defeat the Quyon COMBAT Flyers by a score of 2-1 in GOFL play in Quyon on Sunday afternoon in the annual Mother's Day game.

The many mothers (and other fans) in attendance were treated to a game in warm but windy conditions, which was close to the very end.

Bud Hanlon picked up the win, going four innings for WC Electric. Steve Cavanagh threw the final three innings and picked up the save. Matt Greer went the distance for Quyon.

Fitzroy scored in the top of the first. Michael Cavanagh reached on a two out single, and went to second on a missed pick off attempt. Cavanagh was then driven in on an RBI double by Shawn Rebertz, getting the green light on a 3-0 count.

WC Electric took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Trevor Barton singled with one out, and was moved to second on a Michael Cavanagh sacrifice bunt. Shawn Rebertz then walked. Both Barton and Rebertz advanced 60 feet on a wild pitch. Then, on a subsequent wild pitch, Barton scored to put the 'Trics ahead by two.

Quyon answered back with a run in the bottom of the third. Shawn Laframboise hit a two out double, and was driven in by the hot bat of Joe McCleary with an RBI single.

Quyon threatened in the bottom of the seventh. Jordan Kearns walked with one out, whtn Matt Greer hit an infield single deep to short that he beat out to put runners on first and second. However Steve Cavanagh was able to induce two ground balls to get out of the jam and preserve the 2-1 win.

NOTES: Joran Graham was unavailable for the Flyers as he is at a tryout camp for Team Canada to compete at the ISF Junior Men's in Whitehorse, Yukon - good luck Joran.

In other news, if you ever find yourself hungry in Quyon and looking for a snack, how about ordering the "Quyon Flyer" from Le Gros Patate? For only $5.75 you'll get a poutine, with bacon, spun up in a wrap. A portion of each sale goes to support the Flyers.
