Victory Defeats Lomor Printers 9-2 in Season Opener

Some timely hits led Carp I4C to Victory in game one of the 2008 GOFL regular season. Already down 2-0 after the top of the first from a single by Steve Edgerton and a homerun by Don Cox, the Victory came back in the bottom of the first with 4 runs of their own. Mike Money led off the inning with a walk, Shawn Houle reached on error, Kyle Gourgon singled home two runs, Eric Colvin singled to score Gourgon, and Trevor Wood reached on an error to bring home Colvin. Neil Cooke settled down quickly, retiring Lomor Printers batters in order in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the second, Brooks Paziuk walked, Mike Money doubled and with runners on second and third, Kevin McGuire singled to score Paziuk and Money. Kyle Gourgon walked and Trevor Wood drove in Gourgon for the third run of the inning. In the top of the third, Neil Cooke gave up a double to Steve Edgerton, a single to Don Cox, but retired the next three batters in order with the help of Carp left fielder Shawn Simzer and centre fielder Mike Money who made terrific plays to help keep Lomor Printers off the scoreboard. Trevor Lahey retired Victory batters in order in the bottom of the third, and Neil Cooke returned the favour in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, a walk to Kevin McGuire a single by Kyle Gourgon, and a single by Trevor Wood drove in two Victory runs. Trevor Wood pitched the top of the fifth for Carp to end the game.
