Quyon 11-0 over Greely Tuesday night
from Shawn Laframboise
Quyon 11 Greely 0
The Flyers played host to the Greely Eagles Tuesday night as they made the long trek up to Quyon. Joran Graham got the nod for Quyon, pitching all 5 innings. Ryan Cox got the nod for Greely, taking the loss. Shannon Borho replaced Cox in the second. Al Thomlinson also saw work in relief for the Eagles.
The Flyers received the bulk of their offence from Joran Graham (2/3, 2 HR), Drew Hathway (1/3, HR, BB), and Steve McCord (3/3, 2B). The Greely pitching staff induced many groundballs throughout the first four innings, however many just managed to find the holes.
Graham got out of a jam in the top of the fourth, and shutdown Greely's heart of the order in the fifth to preserve the shutout. Through five innings, Graham gave up 1 infield hit, 1 runner reached by way of an error to the Quyon shortstop, and 6 Eagles drew walks. He now leaves the team to join team Canada for the rest of the month, good luck Joran!
Special thanks to Greely who helped the Flyers set a season high in beer sales following the game. The two-for-five bucks special seemed to be a hit with quite a few Eagles. Greely travels to Carp on Thursday for a tilt against I4C Victory, while Quyon doesn't play again until Wednesday the 11th in Manotick vs. the Printers.

Quyon Flies Over Greely DNTW Eagles
Greely Suffers 11-0 Loss
QUYON, PQ--The Greely DNTW Eagles took the ferry across the Ottawa River for the first time on Tuesday night to play the Quyon COMBAT Flyers. The Quyon Fairgrounds was the site of a surprisingly lopsided affair. The Flyers sent the Eagles home in complete confusion, winning 11-0.
A SIMPLE STORYLINE
Given that both teams had been playing well going into Tuesday’s game, the blowout was a surprise to most fans. But the Eagles simply did not match the Flyer’s intensity. The Flyers pounded the ball, ran the bases aggressively and played near-perfect defense. Meanwhile, the Eagles were flat. They kicked the ball around and looked rusty at the plate. Eagles’ rookie second baseman Matt Peters gave a very simple summary of the game.
“The story of tonight’s game is pretty simple,” said Peters. “We came out flat and [Quyon] came out flying.”
GRAHAM IN TOP FORM
The Eagles suffered a letdown on Tuesday. They had played their best fastball last week when they tied an experienced Manotick club 2-2 in an exciting ball game. But the Eagles could not solve Quyon pitcher Joran Graham. The 19-year-old Graham, who was recently selected to play for Team Canada at upcoming the International Softball Federation World Championships in Yukon, pitched a gem. Not only that, Graham helped his own cause, clocking two homeruns for the Flyers. Flyers’ rookie Drew Hathaway also crushed a dinger for the rouge et blanc.
Despite Graham’s impressive credentials and strong performance, Eagles’ co-captain Anil Hayne felt that his club could have done better. He stressed that consistency is needed for the Eagles to be successful.
“The lesson tonight is that we need to be well-prepared every time we step onto the ball diamond,” said Hayne. “At this high-level of fastball, you cannot afford to take a night off.”
EAGLES ADD TOMLINSON TO PITCHING ROTATION
One bright spot of the evening was the pitching debut of Al Tomlinson. A native of Osgoode, Tomlinson was recently added to the Eagles roster as a right-handed pitcher. He joins a well established pitching staff of left-hander Shannon Borho and right-hander Ryan Cox. Eagles’ catcher Stéphane Vinette commented on Tomlinson’s performance.
“For his first pitching outing in a few years, (Tomlinson) looked pretty good out there,” said Vinette. “We need to rally around his gutsy performance."
The Eagles will look to bounce back with a win later this week. Their next game is on Thursday night when they travel to the Carp Fairgrounds to take on Carp I4C Victory. Thursday’s opening pitch is scheduled for 8:30 PM. The Cox brothers (Ryan and Tyler) are expected to have a “home town” advantage. Their family is from the “Third Line” in former Huntley Township, more commonly known as the Carp Road.
