Easton 6 I4C Victory 2

from Cory Morrison

Easton 6 VS Carp 2

Easton topped Carp 6-2 Wednesday night at the Grove in Stittsville. Dan Konkle got the win for Easton while Neil Cooke suffered the loss.

Carp came out strong in the top of the 1st as Mike Money hit a line shot off Konkle's leg that bounced back into foul territory. Konkle seemed a little shook-up on the play but was able to continue. After Shwan Houle popped up trying to sacrifice Money to second, Kevin McGuire hit a flare over the shortstop's head which enabled Money to take 3rd on the play while McGuire scampered into 2nd. Kyle Gougon then grounded out to 2nd to score Money and put Carp up 1-0.

Easton responded in their half of the 1st as Dave Tubman walked and was sacrified to second by Kevin Chevrier. Easton's latest addition Jeff Seed walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd and then were advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball. Randy Peck then hit a ball in the hole between 1st and 2nd. Kyle Gougon made a good play to knock the ball down but was not able to get the speedy Peck at 1st base and both runners ended up scoring to put Easton up 2-1.

Carp quickly knotted the game at 2 as Eric Colvin led off with a single then advanced to second on a passed ball. Colvin then stole 3rd on a fake bunt and came home on the overthrow.

The score stayed tied at 2 until the 5th inning. With 1 out Jeff Seed hit a high fly ball to shallow center that dropped in after some miscommunition between the center fielder and 2nd baseman. This proved costly as Easton's next batter Peck took the 1st pitch he saw over the right field fence to put the home squad up 4-2.

Easton added some insurance in the 6th as Pat O'Connor led off with a double and took 3rd on a fielder's choice. Lukas Kamps then walked to put runners on the corners. Dave Tubman hit a sac fly to deep right to score O'Connor. Kamps stole second and scored on a throwing error to cap the score at 6-2.
