West Carleton Electric outlasts Manotick 3-2
A two run homer by Jason Cope was the difference on Wednesday night as Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric defeated the Printers by a score of 3-2 in Manotick on Wednesday night.
Brad Porter had the win for West Carleton, while Trevor Lahey took the loss despite allowing only three hits.
The game remained scoreless through three complete, with Lahey striking out seven batters in a row from the last batter of the first through to the end of the third.
The Electric scored all their runs in the fourth inning. Trevor Barton led off with his second single of the game and moved to second on a wild pitch. A Troy Wilson fly ball to right moved the speedy Barton to third. Barton then scored on a Shawn Rebertz sacrifice fly. Beef Johnson walked putting Jason Cope at the plate. Cope stroked a pitch deep to centre to make the score 3-0 for Fitzroy.
Manotick answered with a run in the fourth. Steve Edgerton continued his hot hitting with a single to lead off the inning. Steve Walman sacrifice bunted Edgy to second. After an infield pop out, Trevor Power hit an RBI single to score Edgerton and draw the Printers within two.
The Printers scored a second run in the bottom of the sixth. Steve Edgerton again singled to lead off the inning. Steve Walman then singled to put runners on first and second. After a Mike Branchaud ground out advanced both runners sixty feet, a Trevor Power pop fly to shallow left was misplayed, allowing Edgerton to score a second time on the night. Porter struck out the next two batters to hold the Electric lead at 3-2.
With Lahey not allowing any Electric offense to be generated, Manotick had a chance to win in the bottom of seven. Lyle Schell walked to lead off the inning. After a pop out, Rich Antunes singled to put runners on first and second. When Steve Edgerton lined out to short for the second out, the Electric tried for the double play at first but the throw was a bit off the mark and the runners advanced putting runners on second and third. Steve Walman was the next batter, working a full count and earning a walk to load the bases. However Porter was able to get the next batter to strike out to finish the game and earn the win.
