Toledo Jets win Peewee Title in Kingston
from Luke Healey
Saturday July 5th was a triumphant day for the Toledo GIM Jets Peewee Rep Boys Fastball Team. The Jets brought home the Kingston Tournament “A” Championship. Undefeated in 4 games, the Jets scored 28 runs while only allowing 9 runs. The Jets displayed that talent, teamwork and intelligence can win a Championship.
In the first game the Jets shut out Frontenac 4-0 and in game 2 the Jets won 10-2 over host Kingston. The Jets then faced Scarborough for game 3. Just two weekends prior, Scarborough defeated the Jets in a game at a Cobourg tournament that prevented them from playing in the A Final. This time the outcome was different when the Jets garnered a 5-2 win to advance to the A Final, where they faced Kitchener. This was a team that the Jets had not competed against yet in all their tournament play, so the Jets did not know how strong of a squad Kitchener had. In the end, the Jets achieved a 9-5 win.
The Jets were tenacious throughout the day, displaying strong defensive play as well as depth in the offensive department, with each player having at least one RBI each. The Jets came to Kingston hoping to win and they did! Congratulations Jets!
The next Peewee games for the GIM Jets, ranked fifth in Ontario, will be a double header against Napanee currently ranked number one. Both games will be played Sunday, July 27th, starting 10:30 AM. at Kitley Park in Toledo.
