WC Electric and I4C Victory split doubleheader UPDATED

West Carleton Electric and I4C Victory split a doubleheader in Carp on Thursday night.

Game 1 WC Electric 3 I4C Victory 1

WC Electric took the first game 3-1, with Brad Porter scatting two hits over seven innings and getting the win in relief of Bud Hanlon who left the game hurt after the first batter. Trevor Wood took the loss.

Mike Money had a solo homer to score Carp's only run in the top of the first.

Fitzroy scored two in the third. Adam Brown led off with a single. Jon Daley then had an infield single. When I4C let up on the play, Brown took third which was uncovered and Daley took second to put two in scoring position with none out. Steve Johnson then hit a grounder and Brown scored, with Johnson reaching on a fielder's choice and getting the RBI. When Michael Cavanagh hit a fly ball to right, Matt McNish made a good catch and douled Johnson off first base. However, Daley tagged up and scored.

The last run of the game came in the top of the seventh. Jason Cope led off with a single, and Adam Brown bunted him to second. Jon Daley hit an RBI single to score Cope and put the game at 3-1.

Carp had their only chance with two baserunners in an inning in the bottom of the seventh. Shawn Simzer singled to lead off. When Trevor Wood hit a comebacker to Porter, he tried to get Simzer at second, but he was safe, putting two on with none out. Porter close the door however, with a strike out, ground ball and strike out to preserve the win in relief - LONG relief.

Game 2: I4C Victory 4 WC Electric 3

Victory took game two by a score of 4-3, with Neil Cooke getting the win and Porter taking the loss. Tim Power had two homers in this one for Carp, while Jason Cope had a solo shot for Fitzroy.

Fitzroy threatened in the first. Jon Daley led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Steve Johnson walked then stole second. Mike Cavanagh hit a shallow fly to right, and with the speedy Daley on third, WC elected to send him on the tag. However Matt McNish's throw to home was accurate, getting the double play.

Carp got a run in the top of the second when Tim Power hit a solo shot.

Fitzro got on the board to tie things in the fourth. Mike Cavanagh singled and scored all the way from first on a hit and run on a Shawn Rebertz double to left centre.

Carp regained the lead in the top of five. Brooks Paziuk singled and Eric Rosenquist entered the game to pinch run. Neil Cooke hit a blooper to right. When the right fielder (i.e. me) bobbled the ball, Rosequist took third. This error proved costly as Mike Money then hit a sac fly to left to score Rosenquist.

WC Electric again tied things in the bottom of five on a Jason Cope solo HR, this third of the season.

I4C put two on the board in the top of the sixth when Shawn Simzer singled. The next at bat was a classic as Matt McNish and Brad Porter battled with Porter coming out on top with the K. However, the 'Trics might have been guilty of breathing too big a sigh of relief at getting McNish when Tim Power hit his second homer of the game to put I4C up 4-2.

Fitzroy answered with a single run in the sixth as Cavanagh and Rebertz once again teamed up. Mike Cavanagh singled, stole second and was brought in on a Rebertz hit.

With Fitzroy trying to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, Jon Daley walked with two out. When Daley took off to steal second, Tim Power threw him out to end the match and seal his award as Panasonic Player of the Game.
