Newboro wins the North Leeds League finals

Newboro captures North Leeds title
Brockville Recorder-Times

Newboro has reclaimed the North Leeds Men's Fastball League playoff championship.

Newboro topped Lyn 6-3 here on Tuesday night to win the best-of-five finals in four games.

After losing the opener, Newboro rolled off three straight wins in close games for its third playoff crown in the six consecutive years the team has appeared in the finals.

It was a matchup of the two teams that appeared in last year's finals when Lyn won the league championship for the first time.

Newboro broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with a two-run single and a sacrifice fly.

Newboro grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Jeff Seed. Newboro increased the lead to 3-0 before Lyn tied the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run by Travis Wing.

Troy MacLean started on the mound for Newboro with Jeff Rice coming on in relief.

Matt McNish took the pitching loss.

Note: thanks to Terry McCann of the Greenbush Generals for keeping us up to date on North Leeds action. See you in Elkland, Terry.

Pitching was the other way around: Jeff Rice started with Troy McLean coming on in relief, just FYI.
