Stittsville wins 5-4 in nine innings to advance to GOFL finals

The Stittsville 56ers defeated the Quyon COMBAT Flyers by a score of 5-4 in nine innings at the Grove on Wednesday night. Dan Bradley had the complete game win for Stittsville, while Drew Hathway threw all nine innings for Quyon.
With the win, the 56ers take the semi-final series 3 games to 2 and move on to the Greater Ottawa Fastball League finals against Ottawa Team Easton.
Quyon started the scoring with a two run homer from Joe McCleary in the first inning to put the Flyers up 2-0.
The score remained this way until the bottom of the fifth when Dan Bradley helped his own cause with a three run "no doubter" homer to put the home team up by one run.
Quyon answered back in the top of the seventh and took a 4-3 lead on RBI singles by Joe McCleary and Joran Graham.
Stittsville tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Darren Featherstone RBI.
After a clean eighth for both sides, Stittsville won the game in the bottom of the ninth. Adam Maheu pinch ran at second for the international tie-breaker rule. After a strike out, Maheu advanced to third on a ground out. With two out, a Dan Jessiman ground ball was misplayed, allowing Maheu to score and clinch the series.
The Easton / Stittsville final will start some time next week - dates and times to be posted when available.
A good crowd was on hand for this game. A bleacher full of Quyon fans made the trip and at least five other GOFL teams, many with Pepsis in hand, were represented in the stands.
