WC Electric at the Gil Read

Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric men's fastball club finished 2-2 at the Gil Read Memorial Fastpitch Tournament

WC Electric 5 Stittsville 56ers 4 - 12 innings
This game was a classic that took three hours over two days to complete. Both Bud Hanlon of WC Electric and Darren Featherstone of Stittsville were outstanding, pitching all 12 innings for their teams.

Beginning on Friday night, the game was a 0-0 shutout over 7 innings, with both teams limited to four hits aside. With the "international tie breaker rule" in effect in the eighth, WC Electric didn't score after a sac bunt and two strikeouts. Stittsville also failed to score when WC Electric turned a 6-3-5 double play followed by a pop up.

The top of the ninth saw the first runs of the game. Two errors resulted in a run scored, and two men on for WC Electric. A clutch two run RBI single by Mitchell Taylor made the lead 3-0 with two out. Then the diamond lights went out at 11pm as they were on a timer, and they couldn't be turned back on.

Fast forward twelve hours later to Saturday morning at 11am when the game resumed. After getting the final out of the top of the ninth, Stittsville scored three runs of their own to tie things up at 3-3.

Neither team scored in the tenth, and both teams put runs in the eleventh on RBIs by Mitchell Taylor for WC Electric and Darren Featherstone for the 56ers to keep the game locked at 4-4.

WC Electric managed to win the game with a run in the twelfth with the game winning RBI by tournament pick up Trevor Power and Stittsville failing to score in their half of the inning.

Team Quebec 1 WC Electric 0

In the game Saturday afternoon, Steve Cavanagh was the hard luck loser pitching for WC Electric, allowing only one run on eight hits. Fitzroy only managed four hits against Pascale Gonthier and Etienne Caron who combined for the shutout for the Quebec City based team.

WC Electric 5 Napanee Express 4

WC Electric came from behind from a 3-0 deficit to win 5-4 against the scrappy Napanee Express. Bud Hanlon started pitching for the 'Trics, but gave way to 16-year old Andy Barber who had the win on the slab in relief. Barber, a Bantam-aged prospect from Olreans, was making his tournament debut for Fitzroy Harbour. Matt Hanewich took the loss for the Express.

Trevor Power had a home run for WC, and Steve Johnson, Trevor Barton and Barber all had RBIs in the comeback.

Team Quebec 12 WC Electric 0

In a game best forgotten by WC Electric, costly errors early put them down in the first frame, and Team Quebec never looked back in rolling to a 12-0 victory over five innings. Bud Hanlon had the loss and had relief from both Steve Cavanagh and Andy Barber while Guillaume Boucher had the win.

Barber was named WC Electric team MVP of the tournament, based on his strong showing in his first tournament at the men's intermediate level.
