Blitz defeat Stittsville 8-5

The Ottawa Blitz take Wednesday night’s GOFL game by a score of 8 – 5 over Stittsville 56ers. Starting on the mound for the Blitz was Derick Bulley who was replaced in the 3rd inning for Jamie Blakely while Adam Smith toed the rubber for Stittsville with relief from Darren Featherstone in the 5th inning.

The Blitz came out of the top of the 1st inning up 2 after a 2-out Derick Bulley single was cashed in by a 2 run HR by Tony Searle. The 56’ers replied with one of their own in the bottom of the inning via a lead off single by Ryan Bond, sac bunt by John Craig and an RBI double from Darren Featherstone.

Enter the bottom of the 3rd, Bond started the inning with a walk, followed by an FC from Craig to set up a 2 run HR from Dan Jessiman. Featherstone and Scott Jessiman followed up with back to back singles where Featherstone was later tagged out at a very close play at 3rd to get the first out of the inning. Dan Bradley walked to get Adam Smith up to the plate and punch one through the infield for Stittsville’s 3rd run of the inning. Enter Blakely who came in to stop the bleeding recording the final 2 outs of the inning. 4-2 Stittsville.

The Blitz replied in the top of 4 when Andrew Bruce led off with a double and scored on a Blakely single. Jon Ferguson lined a ball to left center to score Blakely while legging out a triple. Marcel Mondoux then scored Ferguson on an infield error. 5-4 Blitz

After Blakely struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth, Bulley led off the 5th with a triple of his own to right center to set up “Big Papi” Searle for another 2 run HR. Blitz 7-4.

After striking out the first 2 batters in the 6th inning, Bond came to the plate to sit a solo HR to narrow the gap to 7-5 after 6 innings of play.

The Blitz answered in the top of the 7th after Bruce started the inning with a single and a SB to put him on second, Ron Hrycak put the ball in play to score Bruce on an infield error. Blitz 8-5.

Blakely returned in the 7th so strike out 2 batters and a FC to end the ball game 8-5.
