Blitz win 7-4 at Fitzroy on Monday
The Ottawa Blitz won 7-4 over West Carleton Electric in GOFL action in Fitzroy Harbour on Monday night.
Jamie Blakely had the win with Shannon Borho seeing action in relief. Jeff Barber took the loss in relief of 'Trics starter Bud Hanlon.
The Blitz scored to start the game in the first. Marcel Mondoux led off with a single, went to second on a sac bunt by Blakely, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a misplayed grounder.
West Carleton evened the game on a solo home run by Beef Johnson in the second.
Ottawa got another unearned run in the third inning. Mondoux reached on an error, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Tony Searle.
The home team again evened the score in the bottom of the third. Jon Daley singled and took second on a wild pitch, scoring on an misplayed grounder hit by Derek Barber. After Jeff Barber singled and stole second, the 'Trics had runners on second and third with one out. Following a ground out on which the runners were held, Jeff Cavanagh hit a grounder to short that was thrown wide of the bag, seemingly allowing both Barber brothers to score. However, an interference call was made by the officials, negating both runs and keeping the score at 2-2.
Hanlon gave way to Jeff Barber in the top of the fourth and the Blitz got their when Andrew Bruce singled, moved to second on a sac bunt by Will Mood then moved to third and scored on two wild pitches.
A two run home run by Tony Searle, driving in Jamie Blakely who had singled, but the Blitz up 5-2 in the fifth. A solo home run by Jon Ferguson in the sixth made it 6-2.
In the bottom of the sixth West Carleton put another run across when Beef Johnson singled with a hard liner off Blakely's pitching arm bringing Borho over to the slab from first base. Johnson moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when Dave Bahm's grounder was misplayed.
Andrew Bruce's sacrifice fly scored Tony Searle in the seventh to put the Blitz up 7-3 and the Electric could only respond with one run in the bottom of the final inning as Shawn Ryan singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on an error.
