WC Electric defeat Ottawa Blitz 7-2 in Fitzroy

West Carleton Electric beat the Ottawa Blitz 7-2 in GOFL play in Fitzroy Harbour on Monday night.

Andy Barber had the win with Jeff Barber throwing well in relief, while Shannon Borho took the loss with relief from Jamie Blakely.

Ottawa scored their first run in the top of the second. Anil Hayne led off with a double. Ryan Mitts then walked. Adam Grier's RBI single scored Hayne. Andy Barber got out of the jam by retiring the next three hitters.

The home team evened things in the bottom of the second. Jeff Barber led off with a walk and moved to second on a sac bunt by Neil Murphy. Jeff Cavanagh's ground out moved Barber to third, and he scored on a wild pitch to even things at 1-1.

The Blitz moved ahead 2-1 in the third. Derick Bulley led off with a double to right field. Tony Searles then reached on an infield single. Both runners advanced 60 ft on a wild pitch and Bulley scored on Shannon Borho's sac fly to left to put the visitors up a run.

Fitzroy moved ahead in the bottom of the fourth as they sent 12 men to the plate. Derek Barber led off with a double and scored when brother Jeff hit a homerun. After an out, Jeff Cavanagh singled, followed by a Troy Wilson infield single and a Dave Bahm single to load the bases. Mitch Taylor's grounder to third put Cavanagh out but kept the bases loaded with two out. Back to back singles by Jon Daley and Adam Brown scored runs, resulting in Blakely coming in to relieve Borho. Derek Barber, in his second plate appearance of the inning, singled to drive in two runs and put the Electric up 7-2.

No further runs were scored in the game as Jeff Barber threw strong in relief, facing only 10 batters in three innings of work and Jamie Blakely also settled in to keep WC off the scoreboard again.
