Kars takes both games in doubleheader in Fitzroy

The Kars Aces won both games of a doubleheader in Fitzroy Harbour against West Carleton Electric on Monday night in GOFL play.

In the first game, Kars won 6-2. Corey Costello had the win while Steve Cavanagh took the loss.

Kars got on the board in the first. Brad Pender doubled and scored on Cory Morrison's RBI single.

They extended their lead to 2-0 in the second when Chad Costello was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Corey Alkerton's sac bunt and scored on Kurtis Summers' RBI double.

The lead extended to four runs in the third as Kristian Knapp walked, Brad Pender doubled, and both players were brought in on Corey Costello's two RBI single.

Another Kars run was added to the total in the fourth. Summers singled, followed by an infield single by Knapp. A wild pitch moved Summers to third, and he scored when a grounder was misplayed.

Fitzroy responded in the bottom of the fourth. Andy Barber laid down a bunt single and gained second on an errant throw. Dereck Barber singled to put runners on the corners and Jeff Barber's RBI fielder's choice put a run on the board for the home team.

Kars made it 6-1 in the top of the seventh when Cory Morrison hit a solo homerun.

A pimnch hit solo homerun by Dave Bahm in the bottom of the seventh made it 6-2 and that was the final.

In the nightcap, Kars won 10-3 in six innings, with Brad Porter getting the win and Jeff Barber taking the loss with relief from Andy Barber.

Kars started things off with five runs in the top of the first. Corey Costello had a two run homer that casched Brad Pender who had singed. Chad Milne tripled to score Cory Morrison that singled and Milne was driven in by Dave Tubman who singled. Kurtis Summers also singled and Kevin Chevrier's single drove in Tubman to put Kars up 5-0.

Fitzroy got a run in the second. Neil Murphy singled to lead off and moved up a base on consecutive ground ball outs, scoring on Dave Bahm's RBI single.

WC edged closer in the fourth. Beef Johnson walked, moved to second on a ground ball and scored on another RBI single by Bahm.

In the top of the fifth, Cory Morrison led off with a double and scord on Scott Marion's RBI single with two out to make it 6-2 for Kars.

The home team got another run in the bottom of the frame from the Barber brothers. Andy Barber singled, moved to third on Jeff Barber's double and scored on Derek Barber's sac fly to left.

Kars put the mercy in effect in the sixth by scoring six runs to win 12-3. Brad Pender had an RBI, Cory Morrison had a 2RBI double, and Dave Tubman had a three run homer.
