Quyon wins 2-1 at Harbour Days

Quyon defeated WC Electric 2-1 in the Harbour Days game on Friday afternoon.

Matt Greer had the win throwing a three hitter, while Steve Cavanagh took the loss allowing only four hits.

Jon Daley was the first WC Electric batter of the game and scored - but it was the only run the Electric could manage. Daley led off with a double, and Trevor Barton walked. After a strikeout, Daley and Barton advanced each on a wild pitch. Shawn Rebertz's ground out RBI scored Daley to put the home team on the board.

Quyon replied with their runs in the second. Nick Armitage singled to lead off. After a fly out, Shawn Laframboise was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Quyon excuted a double steal and the runners moved up a base when the throw to third was high. Curtis Daley's clutch single up the middle scored both runs to put the Flyers up 2-1.

With the exception of a bunt single in the fourth and a single in the sixth, Cavanagh shut down the Flyer offense the rest of the way but couldn't get any run support.

Fitzroy had an opportunity in the sixth. Trevor Barton led off with a triple to right. Mike Cavanagh then hit a shallow fly to left, and the speedy Barton tagged up. However the throw from Curtis Daley was right on the money and saved a run. The next batter, Shawn Rebertz, then stroked one that just missed going out of the park and hit the fence in right centre. When he tried to stretch it into a triple, Nick Armitage's throw was also perfect and got the third out of the inning to preserve the lead. (Editor's note: Bad decision on both plays by the third base coach.)

The opening fastball game of the event saw the Ottawa Valley Heat midget team squeak out a 5-4 win over the Fitzroy Men's League "All Stars". Adam Rueckwald was the winner for the Heat, while Todd Wilson took the loss.
