Stittsville Bantam Selects win provincials

The Stittsville Major Bantam softball team recently won silver in provincial championships held in Toronto. The Bantam Major Select Team, comprised of boys born in 1995, made it to the provincial final. The Major Bantam team defeated Georgian Bay by a score of 6-3 and Woodbridge by a score of 23-1 in the round-robin play before defeating Unionville 5 3 in the semi-final.
The provincial final was a thrilling rematch with Georgian Bay and featured some excellent softball. The Majors were rewarded for their day's effort with the silver medal following a hard fought 6-5 loss in the provincial final. Congratulations go out to the Major's pitcher Luc d'Entrement, who was awarded tournament MVP honours. The coaches, Dean Lee, Paul d'Entrement and Andrew Mullan, were extremely pleased with the hard work, hitting and fielding displayed by the team during the provincial tournament. The team consisted of Sam Marks, Evan Belshaw, Travis Drew, Luc d'Entrement, James Mullan, Spencer Lee, Braden McGinnis, Matt Gaines, John Assad, Jonathan Egilo and Luke Moore.
The Bantam Minor Select Team, comprised of boys and girls born from 1995-97, gained a tremendous amount of experience from the provincial tournament. The Minor Bantams' first game against St. Catherine's featured a come from behind 13-11 win after falling behind early in the game. In their second game, the Minor Bantams played well, but couldn't maintain their lead and were defeated by a strong Unionville team. They played hard in the Wild card game but were held to a single run against the team from Lyn.
The coaches, Craig Pavia and Steve Halse, were especially proud of the dedication and effort demonstrated by the Minor Bantam team this summer.
The team consisted of Kyle Tapp, Mathew Lee, Brad Cotton, Matt Pavia, Zach Pugsley, Alec Moore, Pascal Snow, Rachel McGinnis, Jamie Steenbakkers, Riley Walsh and Brady Halse.
