Ottawa area men's fastball league round up

Fastball season is coming up soon and area men's leagues are getting ready to play. For those leagues starting next week, think about longjohns under the ball pants and trading in your batting gloves for skidoo mitts.

If any league representatives wish to send me any more information, I'd be pleased to post it.

Greater Ottawa Fastball League: The GOFL gets underway on May 16. Seven teams are participating this year again: West Carleton Electric from Fitzroy Harbour, I4C Victory from Carp, Kars Aces playing out of North Gower, Quyon Combat Flyers, Barrhaven Broadway Blues and Ottawa Blitz playing out of Manotick. Stittsville 56ers will have to start the season in Carp before they move back to a refurbished Grove in the 'ville. The website is http://www.gofl.ca/ but it still needs to be updated for 2012.

Blackburn Men's Fastball League: The east end league appears to have seven teams for this season: Goodfellow Cleaners, Good Ol' Boys, Rogues, Guzzlers, Gloucester Heating, Knights and Mr. Electric. Play begins on May 1st. The league website is http://www.bmfl.ca/.

Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League: The west end league has eight teams for 2012: Broadway Bar & Grill, Laurysen Kitchens, Don Cherry's Sports Grill, Mattamy Homes, ASAP Print Management, OHS Ottawa Home Services, Taggart's Welding and East Side Mario's. Play begins on May 1st. The league website is www.eteamz.com/gcmfl/.

Trend Arlington Fastball League: This rec league has four teams this year: AC Automotive, That`s How We Roll, Vipond Fire Protection and PJ Quigley`s Bar and Grill. The TA league gets things going on May 2. League website: http://www.tafastball.ca/.

Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League: The town league in the Harbour continues to thrive, with eight teams drafted to play on Wednesday and Thursday nights. There are eight new sponsors this year. The Internet hasn't quite made it to Fitzroy so they don't have a website, but I'm playing so I'll keep you up to date.

And last but not least,,,

Eastern Ontario Umpires Association is getting ready for another season of officiating. Can't have a game without umps! Do yourself a favour and visit their website and check out Teddy Metcalfe's mug shot on the home page: http://leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=eouaump.

There is also the New Edinburgh Men's Fastball League which I believe has four teams again - anybody with info on that let me know.  As well the Ashton league usually has four teams. And if you know of any other leagues that deserve a shout out, be sure to drop me a line at fastball[at]fitzroyharbour.com.
