Kars splits doubleheader in Manotick - Wednesday night details

Kars 6 Manotick 2
Kars Aces faced the Manotick Taylor's Blitz in the opening game of their Wednesday night double-header in Manotick, in the first meeting of the season between the two clubs, winning 6-2.

Cory Alkerton had the win for Kars. Shannon Borho took the loss and had relief from Derick Bulley 

Kars got on the board in the first inning. Kristian Knapp led off with a single and was driven home later in the inning by a Cory Morrison single.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Blitz struck for two runs.

Kars responded immediately in the top of the fifth with three runs. Knapp walked to lead off the inning and was followed by an Ellis single. However, Ellis rounded first a little too wide a was picked off first in a controversial call. Cory Alkerton then hit a 2-run homer and Milne followed with a homer of his own, just inside the foul pole in right field to make it 4-2 for Kars.

Kars got single runs in the sixth and seventh on solo homers by Danny Powers and Cory Alkerton, his second of the night, to complete the scoring.

For his complete game win and two homers, Cory Alkerton garners the Caveman's Choice as player of the game.

Barrhaven 4 Kars 3

Kars faced Barrhaven Broadway Blues in the back end of their double-header on Wednesday night in Manotick, in what was the rubber match in the season series between the two clubs. The Blues came away with a 4-3 win.

Trevor Lahey had the win, in relief of Jason Smith. Brad Porter took the loss for Kars.

Kristian Knapp doubled to start the game. Nick Ellis singled to score Knapp. Cory Alkerton then walked. Milne sacrificed, moving both runners up. A ground out and strike out ended the inning.

In the bottom of the first, Joe Allen reached on an error. After a fly out, Kevin Shonfield reached on an error and Allen scored to tie it at one.

For the Blues in the third, Allen singled to lead off.  He was moved to second on a sac bunt by Don Cox, then moved to third on a passed ball. Allen scored on a ground out by Shonfield.

The lead changed again in the fifth as Danny Powers and Jeff Hopkins singled and were brought in on a Knapp double.

Barrhaven restored their lead in the sixth. Cox reached third on an error by the right fielder. Shonfield singled to score Cox.  After Shonfield stole second and third, Trevor Power singled to right, to score Shonfield and make it 4-3. Power earned himself Caveman's Choice as player of the game with the winning RBI.

In top of seven, Knapp singled with one out, but a ground out to first and a strike out ended the Kars' threat to tie the game.
