Quyon Flyers win 15-8 over WC Electric on Tim Craig Night

The Quyon Flyers won 15-8 in front of a good crowd on Thursday night over the West Carleton Electric in what was "Tim Craig Night" at the Quyon ball park.

Things started off with a moment of silence in memory of Timmy Ball Player of the Quyon Flyers who died in January. His wee son threw out the first pitch, to the applause of the fans on hand, which included GOFL "hall of famer" (if we had one) Randy Peck. A hat was passed to raise money for Shawville Minor Hockey, the cause of choice for Tim's family, and $400 was raised.

In on field action, Matt Greer was the winning thrower, while Jeff Barber took the loss for Fitzroy in relief of starter Steve Cavanagh.

Quyon came out hot in the first inning, building off the momentum of the opening ceremony. Dennis McCleary reached on an error and was brought in on Matt Greer's one out triple. Joe McCleary's two run homer made it 3-0.

WC Electric answered back with a run in the second.  Jeff Barber walked with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Barber scored on Dave Bahm's RBI double.

The Flyers got two more in the third when Nick Armitage homered with Greer on base, who had singled.

Fitzroy got back in the game in the top of the fourth. Jeff Cavanagh started things off with a solo home run. Jeff Barber then walked. Bahm reached on an error to put runners on the corners. A steal attempt did not work as Bahm was thrown out. Jon Daley then walked and took second base. Adam Brown's infield single (that's what the sheet says!) drove in Jeff Barber. This was followed by Andy Barber's three run homer which put WC ahead 6-5.

The Electric changed up their pitcher in the fourth, bringing in Jeff Barber to relief Steve Cavanagh. The Flyers reacted by scoring four. Dennis McCleary tripled to start the inning and was brought in by Greer's single. Joe McCleary then singled and Armitage hit another bomb, this one to right that bounced off the top of the fence to make it 9-6 for Quyon.

West Carleton responded in the fifth. Jeff Cavanagh walked to start, and Jeff Barber reached on an error. After a strike out, Daley walked to load the bases. Steve Cavanagh's double brought in two runs and made the score 9-8.

Quyon extended their lead to 10-8 in the bottom of the inning. Dennis McCleary reached base when a fly ball was dropped. He scored on Greer's single.

When WC couldn't plate a run in their half of the sixth, Quyon pushed across five to invoke the mercy rule. Curtis Daley singled and moved to second when Jordan Kearns walked with one out. Dennis McCleary's three run homer made it 13-8. Shawn Laframboise's solo shot made it 14-8. Matt Greer then tripled, his fifth hit of the night, and scored on Joe McCleary's single to end the game at 15-8.

Matt Greer gets the Caveman's Choice as player of the game (Caveman was there to witness it) since he was 5 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs, plus a win on the slab.
