Barrhaven evens series with Micksburg

The Barrhaven Broadway Blues came from behind to defeat the Micksburg Twins 7-3 in GOFL Playoffs on Wednesday night in Manotick. Their best-of-five series is now evened at a game apiece.

Trevor Lahey had the win in relief of Paul Ceppi, while Joran Graham took the loss with relief from Corey Costello.

Micksburg staked out a 2-1 lead after two innings. The Blues got a run in the second when Steve Edgerton lead off with a walk and scored on Lindsay Medynski's triple to right centre gap.

The Twins moved the lead out to 3-1 courtesy of a Chad Costello solo home run in the top of the third. With Micksburg threatening to score more, starter Ceppi was removed in favour of Lahey who got out of the jam.

However Barrhaven came back to take the lead in their half of the third and never gave it up. Aaron Amo walked and Don Cox singled. Tony Macdonald walked to load the bases. Edgerton's base hit scored Amo, a another single by Kevin Williams later in the inning scored Cox and TMac, giving the Blues a 4-3 lead.

Barrhaven added another run in the fourth when Jordan Adams lead off with a single, was moved to second on Amo's sacrifice bunt and scored on Cox's base hit.

The Blues further added to their lead in the fifth when Corey Costello came into throw for Micksburg. Lahey, hitting for Edgerton, singled, as did Kevin Shonfield. Williams dropped a sac bun, on which he was barely thrown out to advance the runners sixty feet. Lahey and Shonfield both scored later in the inning on passed balls.

Micksburg threaten in the sixth, getting the bases loaded with the meat of their order batting, but Lahey got out of the jam to preserve the lead and ultimately the win.

Game three of the series is set for Monday August 26 at 7:30pm in Micksburg.
