Stittsville rallies to beat Quyon - details from Thursday

A little late with posting this - I was gone fishin'.  From John Craig.

Stittsville 11 Quyon 10
56ers were in Quyon Thursday night to take on the Flyers in their last game of the season and arrived to see a lake on right side of the infield.  The Flyers grounds crew deserves to be commended as they dug trenches, bailed, shovelled stone and saw dust and somehow were able to get the field ready shortly after start time.

56ers got on the board early scoring two in the top of the 1st on a walk, three singles and a fielder’s choice but the Flyers would answer the bell with two singles of their own followed by a three run shot by Joe McCleary. Darren Featherstone started the game but was injured in the first so Dan Konkle came in to relieve in the bottom of the second.  Matt Greer added one in the 3rd with a solo shot of his own putting the Flyers up 4-2.

In a game with 4 home runs the highlight of the night would come on an innocuous play in the top of the fourth as Ryan ‘Twinkle Toes’ Bond hit a grounder to third and began to saunter down the line.  The ball was misplayed and half way to first Bond decided to turn on the jets but caught his shoe in the bag somehow and was sent into the infamous Bobby Orr head first dive beyond first base.  Wounded prided but safe at first.

In the bottom of the 4th Quyon would add to their lead on a couple of walks, a single and a triple by Greer as they picked up four more taking an 8-2 lead.  Stittsville began to claw their way back in the top of the 5th picking up two on a walk and a couple of singles, and 2 more in the 6th on Scott Jessiman's second walk of the game and Scott Herriot’s triple.  8-6 Flyers.

Quyon would continue to push in the 6th as Greer hit his second HR of the night, a two run shot restoring the 4 run lead going into the 7th, 10-6.  Ryan Bond lead off the 7th with a triple and scored on a fielder’s choice, 10-7.  Stittsville got the next two runners on base when Konkle ripped a line drive off Matty Greer’s left arm who, after a few minutes, was thankfully ok.  With the bases loaded Scott Jessiman then hit a grand slam to right field to put the 56ers up 11-10.  Quyon put the leadoff batter on base in the bottom of the 7th but that’s as close as they would get as Stittsville held on to the 11-10 comeback.

Scott Jessiman get's the Caveman's Choice as player of the game.
