Kanata beats West Carleton 8-1

The Kanata Pirates defeated West Carleton Electric 8-1 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Thursday night in Carp.

Jason Smith earned the win, with Derick Bulley seeing an inning of relief. Jeff Barber took the loss for WCE.

West Carleton scored in the top of the first, but it proved to be their only run of the night. Jon Daley walked to lead off the game, moved to second on a misplayed grounder and scored on Jeff Barber's RBI single.

Kanata got three back in the bottom of the second. Trevor Power lead off with a walk and scored on Jon Ferguson's RBI double to left. Lindsay Medysnki walked, then Kevin Williams single scored Ferguson. After a fielder's choice erased Medysnski at third, a single by Joe Allen drove in Williams to make it 3-1 for the Pirates.

The Pirates added to their lead in the fourth when Medynski, who had singled, was moved to second on a ground out and scored on Jordan Adams' single.

Kanata manufactured another in the fifth. Aaron Amo doubled and subsequently scored on a Power single.

The home team ended the game on the run rule by scoring three in the bottom of the sixth. Williams lead off with a solo homer. Tony Macdonald singled, then after a ground out, Kevin Shonfield walked. Following a ground out, Bulley walked to load the bases. A single by Power drove in two to end the game with a final of 8-1.

Trevor Power earns the Caveman's Choice as player of the game, calling a solid game behind the plate and contributing offensively with two hits, a walk, three runs batted in and scoring a run.
