Joel was loved by many and respected by all who met him.

And now he is gone.

I will miss Joel and following his success on the diamond. I sure wish his thoughts were on, in his own words, the youth movement that would be coming to Team Canada after the Toronto games. Certainly he would be part of that elite mix.

Joel grew up 2 houses down the street from me. He was 10 years younger than I was, but that never stopped him from playing street hockey with us when he was 4 and 5. By 6 years old he could stick handle better than I was ever going to be able too. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I wish we'd had a chance to hang out as adults. He will alway be the little kid who could kick my ass at street hockey.
