GOFL Wednesday night round up (with an update)
Reports from the Greater Ottawa Fastball League:
I4C Victory 9 Kars Aces 0
In the first game, I4C Victory won 9-0. Cody Price had the win, allowing no hits. Luke Severson took the loss with relief from Cory Alkerton
Kars Aces 6 I4C Victory 5
from Chad Milne
After getting shut out in the first game of their doubleheader against I4C, Kars Aces looked to rebound in the nightcap, sending Brad Porter to the mound against Andrew Putnam for the visitors.
Porter threw a spotless 1st inning allowing the Aces to take the lead in the bottom half. With one out, Kristian Knapp hustled a single into a double and Nick Ellis followed with a walk. Cory Morrison then hit a fly ball to centre field that Knapp tagged up on, but an errant throw to 3rd base allowed Knapp to score, putting the Aces up 1-0 after one inning.
I4C tied the game with a run in the 2nd inning and took the lead with another run in the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the 3rd, Pender walked with one out. Knapp followed with another walk bringing Nick Ellis to the plate. With the count full and after fouling off several tough pitches, Ellis launched a high fly ball just over the right-centre field fence for a 3-run home run, putting the Aces up 4-2.
A scary incident in the 4th inning. Shane McNish came on in relief of Putnam. With one out, Chad Milne hit a rocket back up the middle that dusted off McNish’s hat, just narrowly missing his head. McNish regrouped to set down the next two batters to complete a scoreless 4th inning. The 5th inning was also scoreless.
I4C retook the lead in the 6th, scoring three runs thanks in part to some sloppy defensive work by the Aces.
Kars tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the inning. With two out, Brad Pender hustled a single into a double, stole third and then scored on a passed ball. Cory Alkerton, who came on in relief of Porter in the 6th, held I4C scoreless in the 7th and then hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 7th to give the Aces a 6-5 win.
Ottawa Valley As 10 Micksburg Twins 4
Up the valley, the Ottawa Valley As pulled off a 10-4 win over the Micksburg Twins. Todd Wilson was the winning pitcher with relief from Adam Rueckwald. Corey Costello started and had relief from Matt McIntyre.
More to follow (hopefully).
