Wednesday night round up

Three games were played in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League on Wednesday night.

Quyon Flyers 5 Kars Aces 1 (Game one in Manotick)
Matt Greer had the win while Cory Alkerton took the loss. Nick Armitage and Steve McCord had home runs for the Flyers.

Quyon Flyers 8 Kars Aces 2 (Game two in Manotick)
Trevor Lahey earned the victory for the visitors while Luke Severson was tagged with the loss. Armitage had another homer for Quyon, while Nick Ellis and Cory Morrison had dingers for Kars.

West Carleton Electic 7 Stittsville 56ers 7 (at the Grove)
WC took at 7-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh but the 56ers staged a comeback to tie things at 7.
Kyle Olsen went the distance for the home team while Cole Bolton threw for Fitzroy. Bolton, Andy Barber and Trevor Barton all hit homers for West Carleton, while Adam Smith hit one out for Stittsville.

West Carleton got on the board in the third inning. Adam Brown hit a two-out single and scored on Bolton's home run.

The 56ers got a run back in the fourth. Scott Jessiman walked,  and eventually scored on Mike Barrett's single.

The Trics got another two runs in the fifth. Trevor Barton lead off the inning with a solo line drive homer to straight away centre. After a strike out, Bolton tripled to left and scored on Andy Barber's double.

Stittsville responded with two in the bottom of the inning. Aaron Amo whacked a grounder that hit the first baseman on one of his very blue shoes and he ended up at second base. Amo scored on Ryan Bond's single. Bondo later scored on John Craig's double to make it a 4-3 game.

The top of the seventh put West Carleton in what looked like a commanding lead. Brown got on base on a misplayed grounder. Bolton then bunted for a single. Barber's three run shot made it 7-3. Mike Cavanagh subsequently doubled. After a flyout, Shawn Rebertz hit a screamer to centrefield. A diving Ryan Bond almost made a Kevin Pillar-like horizontal catch, but as he hit the ground the ball popped loose. This put runners on the corners, but Olsen was able to strike out the next two batters.

The home team mounted a comeback in the bottom of the final inning. Adam Smith started things with a no-doubter to deep centre.  The Sixers were able to rally to tie things, capped off by a key RBI double Luc D'Entremont to tie it up at 7-7.
